A utility had spent four years on a migration from a GE/Alstom SCADA/EMS/GMS system to Emerson's OSI Monarch™ platform — a project that should have taken 12 to 24 months. Progress had stalled: each full database conversion (SCADA, FEP, ICCP, calculations, network model, contingency analysis, and more) took so long that by the time it finished, production had already drifted, and the converted values no longer matched it.
Intenertech built a repeatable process — what we call "repetitive conversions" — that took the full database set from source to Monarch™ in under two weeks, leaving enough time to properly compare and validate results before production could drift again. Once the client saw it holding up, we ran a complete re-conversion as often as monthly, without blocking the rest of the migration workstream.
The core bottleneck was removed: the team finally had a current, validated dataset to work from instead of chasing a moving target, unblocking a migration that had been stuck for years.
FERC Order 881 (issued December 2021) requires ambient-adjusted line and transformer ratings, with compliance deadlines now stretching from 2026 through late 2028 depending on the operator's extension. Much of the available vendor software is still maturing — particularly around operator awareness, with many implementations giving transmission operators no clear view of the ambient-adjusted rating on each piece of equipment, no alarm when a rating is manually overridden on the fly, and no easy way to compare their own calculated ratings against the "clearinghouse" ratings the RTO/ISO sends back.
Intenertech built awareness applications inside the client's OSI Monarch™ system specifically for Order 881: intelligent displays showing the ambient-adjusted rating per piece of equipment, alarms for on-the-fly rating overrides, and side-by-side comparison between the client's calculated ratings and the RTO/ISO's returned clearinghouse ratings — flagging tie-line cases where the RTO/ISO value comes back higher than the internal calculation, and any mismatch at all on lines the client owns end-to-end — plus reports and operator help guides tied to each piece of covered equipment.
Transmission operators can now see exactly which ratings are ambient-adjusted, when and where an override has occurred, and when their calculated ratings disagree with what the RTO/ISO sends back — closing an awareness gap most vendor implementations still leave open.
A client needed a new product to meet a FERC requirement, but it wasn't compatible with their installed OSI Monarch™ version — the SCADA/EMS system itself had to be upgraded first, across every environment the client runs.
Intenertech completed the version upgrade and installed the new compliance product ahead of schedule across development (PDS), quality assurance (QAS), production, and the operator training system. Because the new version changed underlying database structures, we also corrected the client's existing custom applications, optimized their training scenarios to match, and built new displays that improved transmission operator awareness.
The upgrade finished early with downtime no longer than a routine server failover, and the client came out with corrected applications, updated training scenarios, and the compliance product live in production.
A client's system was generating far more alarms than operators could meaningfully act on, burying the alarms that actually required a response.
Intenertech rationalized the alarm set down to what operators genuinely need to act on, and reconfigured alarm visibility so each stakeholder group only sees, acknowledges, and clears the alarms relevant to their role. We also built auto-generated help documentation tied to each alarm — its meaning and the required action for every state — that surfaces alongside the alarm itself.
Operators respond faster and more accurately, with reference material built into the alarm itself reinforcing their judgment in the moment instead of relying on memory alone.
An ISO requirement taking effect in June 2026 tightens DFE_T tolerance bands for Dispatchable Intermittent Resources (wind and solar) from 12% down to 4% of the average setpoint — and the client's existing OSI Monarch™ system had no way to support it.
Intenertech built a purpose-made application inside Monarch™ with advanced tabular displays and alarm management to track resources against the new 4% window, updating the underlying EMS calculations and validation logic behind it.
Generation operators are notified through both alarms and a dedicated tabular display showing exactly where each unit sits relative to the tolerance band — minimizing the risk of dispatch penalties under the tighter requirement.
